"you can't just call everything you don't like 'individualist'"
**points at you** individualist

Maybe I'm just a traumatized abuse survivor, but as far as I can tell, our society gets a lot more done when we don't constantly assume the absolute worst possible character of other people upfront, or to react immediately to the worst possible interpretation of everything they say. It's not a corrective bias, it's not valid self-defense, it's toxic and it's powerful and it's contagious.

I keep my hair very clean, but it's visibly oily by the second day after a wash and I'd really like to be able to go three or four days. (If that sounds unkempt, try growing your hair out sometime! Washing too frequently is more than inconvenient, it accelerates wear and damage)

Can anybody suggest a mass-market dry shampoo that will remove oils without depositing too much powdery stuff that makes it dirtier the next day? Or do I just towel it off with rubbing alcohol instead—it seems to work!

Back in 2005, my LG VX8300 flip phone had a camera button. You could raise it with camera ready in a split second. This feature has hardly reappeared anywhere ever since Apple decided in 2007 that smartphones don't have buttons. I'd trade Volume Up for a camera button when the phone is locked, if I can ever get something jailbroken properly.

If you're looking for the most profound and unique narrative superpowers available to fiction using anthropomorphic animal characters, you can hardly find a better example than BoJack Horseman de-familiarizing the condition, in a world full of people in deep social-existential conflict, that most of us refer to each other by names we clearly didn't choose for ourselves. Its cynical games with stereotypes are humorous because they recall our own struggle to exist plainly, characterized or not.

<s> maybe they're just jealous. when is the last time you clapped somebody back so fucking hard they **went to jail**

Co-founder of “Food Not Bombs” Global, Arrested today

"Keith McHenry, the co-founder of the global movement “Food Not Bombs” was arrested and jailed by the Santa Cruz Police Department today for the crime of serving food to the unhoused community members. Approximately 10 officers of the Santa Cruz Police Department arrested Keith at approximately 10:00 am today, December 27, 2022, in River Street Parking Garage #10, 24 River Street, as he was setting up tables to serve a meal out of the intense rain.

This egregious treatment of this community hero comes just two days after Food Not Bombs served a free Christmas feast to over 500 unhoused persons in downtown Santa Cruz. Keith is being held at Santa Cruz County Jail facing two misdemeanor charges of blocking a parking space and loitering in a parking garage. The police also confiscated some equipment belonging to Food Not Bombs including tables, cups for coffee and sugar."

Hey everyone,

I'm still fundraising money to get back to karate in less than two weeks. It's 180€ and I have 40€ for it so far.

We're only living on my disability benefits so we can't afford it ourselves unfortunately.

Any help would mean a lot as it's my childhood dream and maybe it could help me handle ALS better and perhaps live longer if the doctor's right about it.

Thank you so much

In this episode of #OnTheMedia where a senior Mastodon community member says basically that they limited things that caused virality because they thought that was one of the worst things about Twitter, and then kinda shrugs when he says something like "Of course, that means that Mastodon couldn't have supported social movements like #MeToo or #BlackLivesMatter." He also concedes that Black Twitter folk have been made to feel unwelcome, but ... eh.

Encrypted messaging might feel like an “extreme” conception of privacy until you consider the vast number of things we once did in surveillance-resistant private settings that now routinely take place online. It’s like complaining people are allowed to buy homes without hidden microphones because they might plan crimes in them.

@bobbyd0g I had a deep cycle marine agm in my Civic on my tour of Alaska in the Winter of 2002, even down to -45F in Fairbanks it never failed to start. I even had a spare AGM that I carried with me to swap out because I was worried about it too, but I never needed it.

@bobbyd0g most AGMs are good to -75F before they suffer permanent physical freeze damage. They generally have less electrolyte to freeze and it's bound in the glass mat so it doesn't really do anything damaging.

I generally use deep cycle marine AGM batteries since they are even more durable, but you lose some CCU that the lighter starting batteries have.

A battery heater might be good if you're below 0F, just to keep it happy when parked but it should be fine regardless.

@matoakit I see you are correct and I have some cursing to do next time I see that mechanic 😅 Thank you!

@matoakit I thought AGMs were particularly susceptible to cold, and experience permanent damage if they freeze… I was told to keep my Renogy AGM warm, for the solar in the trailer

Thinking maybe I fucked up going diesel, but I don't know if they ever offered the 6spd with a gas engine and it makes a huge difference for towing. Of course… I wasn't supposed to still be here right now, dealing with shit like Friday's 5°F/60mph
